On a gas range this is almost always the bake igniter. It glows, but once it weakens it no longer draws enough current to open the gas safety valve — so you get a glow and no flame. A glowing igniter is not a working igniter. On electric ranges the same symptom usually means a broken bake element (look for a blister or split) or a failed oven thermostat. Both are same-visit repairs when we have the part.

Electric element or radiant zone stays cold

A single coil or radiant zone that never heats is normally the element itself or the infinite switch behind the knob; if several zones die at once, suspect the control board or a burnt terminal block. On induction tops, one dead zone is usually the coil or its driver board — worth diagnosing properly before anyone quotes you a new cooktop.

Oven runs hot, cold, or burns everything on one side

Uneven baking is a temperature-sensor or calibration problem far more often than a dead oven. We put a meter on the sensor, compare it against actual cavity temperature, and recalibrate or replace. If the convection fan has stopped turning, that alone will give you one scorched side and one pale one.
