A fridge that's warming up is the appliance call we get the most, and the one people wait the longest to make — usually because the freezer side still feels cold, so it doesn't seem urgent until the milk turns. Here's what we actually check, in order, on a refrigerator repair call anywhere in Orange County.
This is the single most common refrigerator complaint we run, and it's almost never the compressor. The evaporator coil sits behind the freezer's back panel and cools both compartments through a fan — if that coil ices over because the defrost heater or defrost thermostat has failed, the fan can't push cold air forward into the fridge even though the freezer, sitting right on top of the evaporator, stays cold on its own. We pull the back panel and look for solid ice before replacing anything. Defrost heater or thermostat: $160–$260. A seized evaporator fan motor instead: $140–$220. Either way it's usually a single 45–60 minute visit. We wrote up the full symptom order in refrigerator not cooling — the 5 causes in order.
When both compartments have gone warm together, we start at the condenser coils — a fridge pulled tight against a wall or sitting in a garage with dusty coils simply can't reject heat, and cleaning them off solves more "dead fridge" calls than people expect. If the coils are clean, we check the start relay and run capacitor next; a compressor that hums but won't start is very often just the relay, a $90–$160 part, not a failed compressor. A genuinely seized or refrigerant-leaking compressor is the expensive case — $300–$600 for a sealed-system repair — and on a unit past 12–15 years we'll tell you honestly when replacement is the better math instead of running the diagnostic bill up.
Orange County's hard tap water scales up an ice maker's fill valve and the fill-cup screen faster than it would in a soft-water area, so that's the first thing we test — flow rate at the valve and mineral buildup on the screen — before condemning the ice maker module itself. A scaled fill valve is $150–$230. If the module's own auger motor or thermostat has failed, that's $220–$350. On built-in columns and panel-ready refrigeration, ice maker service takes longer to source parts for; see our note on Sub-Zero refrigeration repair.
Almost always a clogged defrost drain — food debris or a mineral clog stops the drain tube behind the crispers, and the melt from each defrost cycle backs up into the drawers instead of running down to the drain pan. We clear the drain and check the drain pan itself for damage; that's a quick, inexpensive fix. Water under the unit instead of inside it usually points to a cracked water line fitting at the back, most often the connection feeding the ice maker or dispenser.
A compressor that never cycles off is usually compensating for something else — dirty condenser coils, a door seal that's lost its grip, or a condenser fan that's stopped moving air across the coils. We check the door gasket for a broken seal first since it's the cheapest possible fix and the most commonly overlooked one. On LG and Samsung units specifically, a documented linear-compressor failure is common enough that it's frequently covered under the manufacturer's own extended warranty — worth checking before paying for a repair out of pocket. See LG compressor failure — what to check first.
We service side-by-side, French door, top- and bottom-freezer, and built-in column refrigerators — Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, GE, Bosch, KitchenAid, Frigidaire, Kenmore and Maytag, through to the premium built-in brands: Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking, Thermador and the rest. Same-day refrigerator repair is available in Irvine, Mission Viejo, Huntington Beach, Anaheim, Santa Ana, Newport Beach and across the rest of Orange County.

A dead cooktop is the one repair people cannot put off until next week — it is dinner tonight. We keep same-day slots open for stove and range repair across Orange County, and we carry the parts that fail most often on the van: igniters, spark modules, surface elements, infinite switches and oven thermostats. Call before noon and there is a good chance we are at your door the same afternoon.
Nine times out of ten this is moisture or debris around the electrode, or a burner cap sitting slightly off its seat — a boil-over is the usual culprit. Dry the burner completely, seat the cap square and try again. If it still clicks with no flame, or it keeps clicking after the burner lights, the electrode is cracked or the spark module is failing. On Wolf ranges this is common enough that we wrote a full guide: why a Wolf igniter keeps clicking.
On a gas range this is almost always the bake igniter. It glows, but once it weakens it no longer draws enough current to open the gas safety valve — so you get a glow and no flame. A glowing igniter is not a working igniter. On electric ranges the same symptom usually means a broken bake element (look for a blister or split) or a failed oven thermostat. Both are same-visit repairs when we have the part.
A single coil or radiant zone that never heats is normally the element itself or the infinite switch behind the knob; if several zones die at once, suspect the control board or a burnt terminal block. On induction tops, one dead zone is usually the coil or its driver board — worth diagnosing properly before anyone quotes you a new cooktop.
Uneven baking is a temperature-sensor or calibration problem far more often than a dead oven. We put a meter on the sensor, compare it against actual cavity temperature, and recalibrate or replace. If the convection fan has stopped turning, that alone will give you one scorched side and one pale one.
We service freestanding ranges, slide-ins, separate cooktops and wall ovens, gas and electric, from Whirlpool, GE, Samsung, LG, KitchenAid, Bosch and Frigidaire through to the built-in brands — Wolf, Viking, Thermador, Gaggenau and the rest. Same-day stove repair is available in Irvine, Anaheim, Huntington Beach, Santa Ana, Newport Beach, Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo and across the rest of Orange County.

Dishwashers fail in a handful of predictable ways, and most of them are a one-visit fix once you know which part is actually bad. Here is what we check, in the order we check it, for dishwasher repair calls across Orange County.
The drain pump or its impeller is jammed with a piece of glass, a bottle cap or broken food scraps more often than it's actually burned out — we pull the pump housing and check for debris before assuming we need to order a part. If the pump spins freely and the water still sits, the check valve in the drain hose or a kinked line under the sink is next. Garbage-disposal knockout plugs that were never removed during a new-disposal install are a surprisingly common cause on Orange County kitchens that got remodeled in the last few years.
Clogged spray arm holes, a worn wash pump impeller, or a door gasket that's lost its seal and is bleeding pressure mid-cycle. We covered the full diagnostic in our dishwasher not cleaning dishes guide — worth a read before you call if you want to rule out the free fixes (spray arm blockage, rack overload) yourself first.
Usually a blown thermal fuse on the control board, a door latch switch that isn't registering closed, or a tripped GFCI outlet under the sink — we check the outlet first since it takes thirty seconds and saves a service call. If power is present at the unit and it still won't respond, the control board itself has failed. That's the most expensive dishwasher repair we see, typically $150–$320, because the board has to be matched to the exact model number.
A worn or torn door gasket is the most common cause and is a cheap, same-visit fix. Leaking from underneath the unit instead is more often a cracked sump, a failed water inlet valve, or a loose hose clamp at the pump — those take a bit longer since we have to pull the unit out to see the connections clearly.
A loud buzz or hum with no drain action is almost always the drain pump motor trying to turn against a blockage — same fix as a slow drain, just caught earlier. Flashing error codes vary by brand: Bosch and Samsung units usually flag a specific fault (drain, heating, or water supply) rather than a generic "error," which speeds up diagnosis considerably once we know the model.
Typical dishwasher repair cost runs $110–$320 depending on the part, and most jobs finish same-day because gaskets, float switches, thermal fuses and pumps are parts we carry on the van. We service Bosch, Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, GE, Miele and the built-in brands — Thermador, Sub-Zero, Wolf — across Irvine, Huntington Beach, Anaheim, Santa Ana, Newport Beach and the rest of Orange County.
